There is a new travel website that helps you plan where to stay, eat and play around the world with info from databases previously available only to travel agents for a fee.
www.ProfessionalTravelGuide.com does not book travel. You plan at the site, then book through any travel agent or booking site.
Best features
- The hotels section gives a comprehensive list for a destination, with a photo, basic info and price range for each hotel. Clicking on a choice gets you extremely detailed info, including facts such as when the property was last renovated and whether disruptive repairs are under way.
- In addition to a list of attractions and activities by type, the site details things to do nearby.
- The comprehensive restaurant list provides cuisine and price range details.

With non-rechargeable batteries, here are a few simple precautions from www.consumerreports.org.
- Don’t recharge them, expose them to high heat, subject them to strong impact, or get them wet. They could explode.
- Don’t mix types, brands, or ages.
- Don’t install batteries backward.
- Remove batteries if the device is powered by household current.
- Dispose of a battery that feels hot, changes color or shape, or emits an odor.
It’s OK to throw used alkaline batteries in the trash if your community won’t recycle them. But don’t put them in metal-filled containers because they could overheat.

| Save on Home Energy Costs |
|
 |
According to the Department of Energy, electricity for heating and cooling cost the average family $1,500 per year.
That cost is expected to climb to $1,640 during the next five years fueling families to consider zero-energy homes, a highly energy-efficient design meant to produce as much electricity as it uses.
The Federal Energy Policy Act provides a tax credit of up to 30 percent of the system’s cost (to a maximum of $2,000) when purchasing a new home with solar equipment. The credit is part of a nationwide initiative to reduce home energy consumption 70 percent by 2020.

Unintentional neglects are real sales stoppers.
Sometimes, after spending many comforting years in their homes, sentimental and subjective sellers overlook potential home sale-stoppers.
Points of neglect by the seller, such as stains on the ceilings, drains that run slowly or walls which show signs of pipe leaks, are all red flags to buyers. The sellers who have lived with these malfunctions can let their emotional attachment overshadow their practical judgment. Beware! These problems become deferred maintenance nightmares to potential buyers.
Also make these improvements before you sell:
- Clean up and remove clutter
- A new coat of paint, new carpeting, freshly manicured landscaping, updated fixtures, windows, doors and other touches can put your home in the best light.
